Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the 2026 intake, you must meet rigorous academic, linguistic, and civic criteria.
- Nationality: You must be a citizen of Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, or Ethiopia.
- German Proficiency: Proof of at least B2 Level proficiency (e.g., a certificate from the Goethe-Institut) is required.

- Master’s: Must apply for a program lasting at least four semesters.
- Undergraduate: Funding is generally for postgraduates, but if you are currently a Bachelor's student in Germany, you must have completed at least two semesters to apply.
- Social Values: KAS seeks individuals with a strong record of voluntary engagement and social commitment.

How to Apply (Step-by-Step)
The application for the East African region involves a two-step digital submission.
- Register on the Portal: Access the KAS Scholarship Portal and create an account.
- Complete the Form: Fill in all required information and sign the application.
- Email Submission: In addition to the portal, you must send your signed application and all supporting documents (in PDF format) to Nairobi@kas.de.
- Review & Interview: Regional offices will review applications. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
