How to Apply for Global Korea Scholarship 2027 for Undergraduate Degree for International Students
Applications for the GKS Scholarship 2027, also known as the Global Korea Scholarship 2027, are open now for international students who want to pursue their studies in South Korea for free on a fully funded scholarship by the Korean Government. The Global Korea Scholarship 2027 (GKS Scholarship 2027) is a Korean government scholarship designed to give international students an opportunity to study at higher education institutions in South Korea. The objective of the scholarship is not only to support international students academically, but also to promote international educational exchange and strengthen friendship between Korea and participating countries. The 2027 Global Korea Scholarship for Undergraduate Degrees (GKS-U) is administered by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED). Aim and Benefits of Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship
- Airfare: GKS scholars are provided an economy-class flight ticket, based on actual expenses.
- Tuition Fee: For the GKS Scholarship 2027, NIIED provides tuition support of up to KRW 5 million, while the university covers the amount exceeding KRW 5 million as well as the admission fee.
- Korean Language Training: The scholarship provides KRW 5.2 million per year for the Korean language program.
- Monthly Allowance: The 2027 guidelines state the allowance as an annual all-inclusive amount:
- Korean Language Program: KRW 13,560,000 per year (this works out to approximately KRW 1,130,000 per month)
- Degree Program: KRW 14,400,000 per year (this works out to approximately KRW 1,200,000 per month.)
- Settlement Allowance – One-time allowance provided upon arrival.
- Medical Insurance – Health insurance for the duration of the scholarship.
- Completion Grant – Awarded at the end of the program to support transition after graduation.
- Korean Proficiency Grant – Scholars with advanced Korean language skills (TOPIK 5 or 6) may receive additional support.
Requirements for Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification
- Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of NIIED-designated countries. Parents must also not hold Korean citizenship. Dual citizens with Korean nationality are not eligible. UIC program is open to all nationalities.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s program: High school graduates (or expected to graduate by Dec 31, 2026).
- Associate program: High school graduates (or expected to graduate by Dec 31, 2026).
- Applicants with a bachelor’s degree cannot apply.
- Expected graduates must submit proof of graduation by Dec 31, 2026.
- Grades:
- At least 80% or top 20% of class, OR
- Minimum CGPA: 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0.
- Age: Must be under 25 years old (born after March 1, 2002).
- Health: Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Restrictions:
- Graduates (or expected graduates) of Korean high schools, associate degree programs, or online Korean programs are not eligible.
- Applicants who previously received a Korean government scholarship for a degree are not eligible.
- Duplicate applications to multiple tracks/universities are not allowed
How to Apply
There are two different application procedures for the GKS Scholarship 2027, depending on your track:
1. GKS Scholarship 2027 Embassy Track Application
Embassy Track applications are submitted online through the Study in Korea website.
The official application period is:
- Opening: September 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM KST
- Deadline: September 30, 2026 at 6:00 PM KST
- Applicants must create an account on Study in Korea, complete the required sections and upload the required documents.

2. GKS Scholarship 2027 University Track Application
- University Track applicants do not apply through the Study in Korea online application system.
- Instead, applicants must apply directly according to the submission method specified by their chosen university, which could include submission by mail, in person or another method determined by the university.
